Every once in a while, elven society gets around to writing a history book. It's rare, but it happens. And when it does, it's a universally accepted fact amongst all elven historians that the Swamp Elves aren't supposed to be mentioned. From the boggy areas around Kryphaneos, the long-lived and tenacious Swamp Elves occupy a strange sort of niche – at one with nature, but not in the way so many Elves claim to be. Rather, Swamp Elves are at one with nature by not having the typical tastes that so afflict people from civilised lands.

Swamp Elves tend to be insular and surly, and very deeply emotional. Rather than reserve themselves, Swamp Elves will willingly run the full gamut of emotions from joy to rage, and are very much like the orcs they regularly battle with.

Physical Description

Swamp Elves tend towards androgyny, but not in the way normal elves do. Rather, Swamp Elves tend to look more male than female, if only slightly effeminate ones. However, a male Swamp Elf generally looks the same way as a female Swamp Elf – unless the woman is for some god-unknown reason enormously well endowed.

Swamp Elves trance, as elves do, but need a full eight hours, as normal races do. This is one of the many things High Elves use to claim that Swamp Elves are no more and no less than a lesser species, and even that they're not actually elves at all.

Swamp Elves live in lands where if something isn't trying to eat you, it's probably because you're too big. There aren't any races that the Swamp Elves have any particular favour or hatred for, but they are quite resoundingly antisocial.

Swamp Elves are typically Chaotic Neutral.

The Swamp Elves only occasionally nod and wink towards the Elven Pantheon, and are on the whole, typically irreligious. Swamp Elves often take to the path of the Forsaker, in fact, and many more are stout agnostics.

Same as High and Common Elves – despite many flutings, they still speak elementary Elven, a fact that grates on many.

Swamp Elves have names that rarely, if ever, bely their elven heritage. Having more in common with orcish titles than elven ones, it's common for Swamp Elves to be mistaken for orcs when one has nothing but a name to work with. Swamp Elven names are unisex.

  • Sample Names: Mawglash, Forgren, Hyrute, Kert, Mernoct.
  • Adventurers: Swamp Elves are almost the quintessential adventurer, much like their Grey Elven cousins. However, while the Grey Elves typify swashbuckling grace and style, Swamp Elves are barbaric and rude, and tend towards smashing things.
