(Obsolete) Bloodline Feats

Bloodline feats are a more limited variant of Background feats. Most background feats explore new mechanics, or grant abilities that are normally simply unavailable to the character because they rely on something that a character simply cannot acquire. Because choosing a background feat is an option made at 1st level (a limiting factor), many background feats are more powerful than other, similar feats that a character could otherwise have.

Bloodline feats are a further limited version of Background feats. A bloodline feat represents some kind of unnatural, supernatural touching to the character's background - a strain of angelic or demonic blood, or perhaps an affinity with the Fey Folk. These are not major enough to change the character's race - but they do show in the character's abilities. Their heritage grants them some special powers, at the expense of a feat. A Bloodline feat is, in fact, best compared to a Prestige Feat - it only grants its later benefits if its owner fulfils a series of prerequisites.

Bloodline feats are very much referential to the philosophy of delayed gratification; a character who takes a bloodline feat does not receive any significant benefit from it for several levels, and often, the advantages granted by the feat do not make up that much value for the character at the levels at which he gets them. However, the point of bloodline feats is to grant some mechanical benefit and to help characters flesh out (and to some, legitimize) an important racial heritage.

Blood War Boon

[Background, Bloodline]
The Blood war - the raging battle of demons versus devils - has bled through into most planes of existance. It bled through to yours - you may not have even the faintest demonic or diabolic heritage, and yet, the powers that be show their fell power in your form.
Benefit: You receive a +2 racial bonus to Intimidate checks made when interacting with goodaligned creatures. You also have the (Evil) subtype. When you have five or more hit dice, you gain the ability to use Darkness as a spelllike ability once per day per five hit dice you have, with a caster level equal to your Hit dice. At 20th level, you become an Outsider (Native) if you weren't already. If you are Vile, you may grant the benefit of Vile feats to other people. You also become immune to poison and petrification.

Born Under the Saint's Star
